Let me save you 10$

Book starts out explaining that he is going to give you practical step by step advice on how to make a living in songwriting! (yay finally!).. not so fast.. Book starts like this: Rambling obvious fabrications about how when he got to town, he went out drinking and happen to meet about 5 superstars in one night ...Obvious things are mentioned like play at songwriter nights and meet other songwriters... all that is fine and good but the farther into the book you get.. the more you realize there is only one point being made: The way you make a living in the songwriting business is by going out to bars, getting drunk and sitting there waiting for people to talk to you. (ok any more profound advice?)...nope... THATS LITERALLY IT. Thats his advice and i'm dead serious when I say "thats IT" The whole book has a condescending sort of negative tone to it. It lacks passion, it lacks creativity, And its more importantly it's non inspring . I'll save you 10$ and the wasted time and tell you the only valuable information in this book:
1. Join an PRO (performance rights organization) 2. find out who your PRO representative is and set up a meeting with them. 3 Join NSAI
I don't know the motivation for writing this book, but it wasn't to empower you. Money perhaps? DO NOT BUY IT. The above paragraph is the whole book.

Want to be a Pro Songwriter? Buy this book and use it!

This is a Book for songwriters who WANT to be Pro Writers! This NOT a book about songwriting. It's about becoming a Pro Songwriter and the road traveled by Jim Femino and many a Pro Writer in Nashville and how they reached their goal of "Conquering" Nashville! The advice that Jim gives through his stories in this book are real world Nashville and are packed with nuances some people may not get until they start making regular trips to Nashville. (Making trips every few months for a week at a time.) I know I was one of them that did not "get it" until I started practically living in Nashville. There's a bunch of great books right on Amazon such as Jason Blume's "Six Steps To Songwriting Success" that teach you how to become a better writer and improve your craft, but I have not found one that actually shows you and explains what the "industry" side is about until this book by Jim Femino. He talks a lot about how the industry side is about "people" and how to get in "Camps," "The Hang," why songs get cut and when and how to pitch a song. Plus where to meet people and who are some of the people that will help you achieve your goals. Like most great songwriters, he writes about what he knows and from his own experiences. So like the title says, this is really a "Guide!" Buy it, read it, take it with you to Nashville to use as YOUR guide! Refer back to it every night after a full day of co-writing, writers night, lunches, pitching, demoing and maybe a little drinking (experiences) and you will be amazed at the "BIG AH's" that will then present themselves to you in the pages of this book. But, you will have the advantage of knowing what may come next from your "Guide!" I still am learning from this book and I lived this book before it was written! Jim Femino took me under his wings more then 10 years ago, (like Ralph Murphy, VP at ASCAP did with him) and started showing me the ropes. I guess it worked, because last year one of my songs was a two week #2 Hit on several Billboard Charts! Need I say more! Enjoy YOUR journey!
