YES! Fantastic book that reminds you why and what to be grateful for - quick Saturday read in the park!

I loved this book - absolutely LOVED it - for several reasons:
1. It was a fantastic reminder about all the things I'd read about before and had forgotten - i.e. Why to be grateful. Who has control over my life. Why reactions are more important than the circumstances we face.
2. It was a quick, leisurely read on a Saturday afternoon. This book is best enjoyed over the course of an afternoon (give yourself about 4-5 hours) with a pen, highlighter and notepad close by. Picnic optional.
3. This book gives action items and resources to continue the path to happiness - who doesn't love action items?! This book is filled with substance and direct examples that I can use in my own life. I actually feel more efficient for having read "How To Live Remarkably"
4. I could go on, but I will conclude with saying, this book provided me with instantaneous gratitude for what I have in my life. It also made me realize how to be more self aware of my reactions to my circumstances.

Passes the Indoor Bike Test!

Ah, a man after my heart. Of course this conqueror of mediocrity is interested in continuous improvement. Of course I am interested in living remarkably.

Good nonfiction authors get to the point, excellent nonfiction authors get to the point using do it with relevant, experiential examples. In How to Live Remarkably, Steve Gallegos demonstrates he is an excellent nonfiction author. Normally, I review books on Goodreads, and judge them on holding my interest while I ride my bike indoors on the Computrainer. Although I didn't read this book while riding my bike on the Computrainer, I could. That's saying a lot, because riding inside is boring and tedious. Any read that has the slightest weakness can't survive. How to Live Remarkably caught my interest, and you've got me thinking on how I can be better. The reviewer named Debbie was correct; this could be a great book used in a corporate book club or peer group.

RUEY S. TSAY, PhD, is H.G.B. Alexander Professor of Econometrics and Statistics at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Dr. Tsay has written over 100 published articles in the areas of business and economic forecasting, data analysis, risk management, and process control. A Fellow of the American Statistical Association, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and Academia Sinica, Dr. Tsay is author of Analysis of Financial Time Series, Third Edition and coauthor of A Course in Time Series Analysis.

Unexciting but useful

As the Russians say, "the veteran horse plows a straight but shallow furrow". The book's preface acknowledges an overlap with the earlier "Analysis of financial time series" (AFTS), pointing out the novelty of included examples. I would call "overlap" an understatement, and describe "Introduction to analysis of financial data with R" (IAFD) as a subset of AFTS, illustrated with examples, implemented in R. I may have wished for something fancier than the oh-so-nineties repertoire of ARIMA and GARCH - the marginal exceptions show up in the sections on ACD and EVT - but accept that the book is meant to be a textbook in a master's-level course. (Yet is priced at over $100! This made the choice between four and three stars easy). I am unimpressed with its usage of R: the ARMA/GARCH analyses are quite repetitive, the plotting is basic, data manipulation altogether absent, an early encouraging use of quantmod package does not develop at all. (If you visit the book's web page - and you will have to, to get the scripts that, for example, estimate GARCH flavors; in the book, it's just "source(..)" - you will count nine R packages used: fGarch, MASS, evir, quantreg, quantmod, TSA, fracdiff, fBasics, mnormt). The occasional typos - the amusing "Merry Lynch" has been caught in the errata, but others remain - add to the impression of a path-of-low-resistance approach. Even so, given the author's caliber, you get a useful, quality book. I would suggest taking a look at IAFD and the two books by David Ruppert, to see which one(s) you prefer.

That would be fine if the author had presented more examples of how ...

(As a disclaimer, I have an advanced degree in signal processing and image analysis.) This appears to be a textbook for an advanced course in finance. I had hoped it was a book for investors who have an interest in programming and writing their own portfolio management software in R. Instead, it focuses on being a book that covers many of the advanced time series analysis methods used in financial modeling. That would be fine if the author had presented more examples of how the methods were applied to financial modeling and how the results were used. It would have been helpful to also have more comparisons of the pros and cons of the different methods.

What I found lacking in this book was more description of the application of the methods described. The presentation is: here is a method for analyzing a time series and here is some R code (sometimes). It assumes that the reader already understands the derivation/origin of the method being presented from a signal processing/mathematics standpoint. The text does a poor job of explaining the role of each method in financial modeling. How would one apply a given technique and exactly for what purpose? So, the book seems to be written for that narrow audience who knows the derivation of the methods presented and knows the application as well. Equations are presented with a terse explanation of their parameters.

Finally, the book cries out for a good editor. Dr. Tsay does not write clearly, unfortunately, and in many instances the syntax of the book is cumbersome, making the meaning difficult to discern.

Very dense and technical.

This is a really, really dense and technical read, especially for a book that calls itself an "introduction". I'm a graduate student in analytics but have been unable to get anything out of this book because it is so high-level and filled with unreadable equations. I'd only recommend it for those who have a very advanced understanding of statistics and mathematics (calculus and beyond), since that seems to be the assumed baseline for readers.

The main interest of the Paramārthasāra is not only that it serves as an introduction to the established doctrine of a tradition, but also advances the notion of jiv̄anmukti, ‘liberation in this life’, as its core theme. Further, it does not confine itself to an exposition of the doctrine as such but at times hints at a second sense lying beneath the evident sense, namely esoteric techniques and practices that are at the heart of the philosophical discourse. Its commentator, Yogarāja (eleventh century), excels in detecting and clarifying those various levels of meaning. An Introduction to Tantric Philosophy presents, along with a critically revised Sanskrit text, the first annotated English translation of both Abhinavagupta’s Paramārthasāra and Yogarāja’s commentary.

About the Author

Lyne Bansat-Boudon is Professor in the Section des sciences religieuses at the École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE) in Paris, and an Honorary Senior Member of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF). Her main fields of research are Sanskrit Literature and Poetics, Aesthetics and the Śaiva tradition. She published in 1992 Poétique du théâtre indien. Lectures du Nâtyaçâstra, and, in 2006, as the chief editor of the volume and a translator, Théâtre de l’Inde ancienne, Gallimard (Bibliothèque de la Pléiade).

Kamaleshadatta Tripathi is Emeritus Professor at the Benares Hindu University, India, where he was Dean of the Faculty of Sanskrit Learning and Theology and Head of the Department of Religious and Agamic Studies. For several years he also was the director of the Kâlidâsa Akademi in Ujjain. His research interests include Agamic Philosophy, Hindu Theology, Philosophy of Grammar, Sanskrit Literature, Poetics and Aesthetics.

Nice, but pricey

This book is certainly impressive, with Introduction, Notes, and an edited Sanskrit text. I am sure that anyone who buys it will not regret the purchase, even though they may have to go without lunch for a month or so. Like much of what is produced by academic presses anymore, it is way too expensive. The copy I'm looking at is from a university library. There are, however, options, and that is the reason why I'm writing this review. The Paramarthasara has also been translated by Deba Brata Sensharma and published by the Muktabodha Institute (unfortunately not available through Amazon.) This translation also contains the commentary of Yogaraja, but not the Sanskrit text. The text though is available through the same Muktabodha Institute for free download. Just so people know, unless they really want to, they often don't need to spend so much for a text if they look around a little.

Ajeet N. Mathur teaches Strategic Management and International Business in the Business Policy Area, IIM Ahmedabad. His inter-disciplinary interests are at the crossroads of economics, law, and strategic management of organizational knowledge. These are reflected in his work in international business with corporates and as an expert with ILO, WHO, ADB, and the European Commission. A significant focus of his research is on pervasive uncertainty and systemic risks, how motives and powerbases combine, group relations and the unconscious dynamics of large groups, linking strategy to organization development and co-evolution of capabilities in cross-border value chains, politics of disharmony in the management of gender differences, missing markets, market barriers, and the management of institutional diversity in cross-border value chains. He has been a member of the Board of Directors with Corporates in India and Europe and is consulted by businesses, governments, international organizations, and the policy research community. He served a term as the Director and Chief Executive, Institute of Applied Manpower Research with the rank of Secretary to the Government of India in the Planning Commission. Shocking Ending

When Jessica and her best friend, Ryan, are at Horrorland, they buy a two- headed coin at the Chiller's gift shop. Then, while walking home through school they take a short cut through a field. They flip the coin and enter into a medieval world.

Jessica and Ryan encounter a blacksmith, angry guards and a headless Prince. Can they escape the horror?

The fifteenth entry in the Horrorland series reminds me of one of my favorite Goosebumps: A Night in Terror Tower. The plot in Head, You Lose! is very lose, containing mainly of chase scenes in the medieval world. The book is still fun, with a shocking ending.

This book was obviously inspired by the Spirit.

I don't usually write reviews on books but in this case, I have to share with you about this book. This is a parallel Bible meaning that all the stories in the Gospels are on or close to the same page, in the order that they happened. This in and of itself is a hard task because sometimes a story will appear in one Gospel and not another and the chronology is hard to determine. However, in Andrew's Life for Today, you can see just by this fact alone that it is an inspired book. The structure of the book is that on each page are two Gospels, left page has Matt, Mark, right page has Luke, John. So you open it to four columns of easy to read text. The footnotes and commentary are below the Scripture and sometimes take up the next page or so. The font for the commentary and footnotes is smaller (because there is a lot of it) and I would imagine for a person with poor eyesight, a magnifier would be handy. Then again, if you really take in all this book has to offer, you may not have poor eyesight any longer.

The main part of the Life for Today is the commentary that accompanies each verse (yes, almost every verse has a truth behind it written out for you). You may not know Andrew Wommack from Adam's house cat but regardless, you can read for yourself that these words are flowing from the Spirit. Every teaching of Jesus and story of Him and His disciples meshes together seamlessly and is explained perfectly. What's even more awesome is the fact that there aren't ANY hard concepts, twisting of what's written in the Bible, or going to outer space to get the point of what's written in the verse. This book has and will continue to change my life. I also got the Romans Edition which is just as good! I'll be owning the whole series shortly. The Bible translation in these books is the King James Version, which, in my opinion, may be old school with the thee's and thou's but it is a revered, time-honored, accurate translation. If you think you know every story there is in the Bible, this book will change your mind. I believe studying this will change your life and renew your Spirit and mind. God Bless.

oh my, what a glorious teaching this is!

When I first received this teaching, it utterly changed the course of my life. I became a free woman, and began to walk in the blessings and favor that God, my Father, has always intended for me. The simplicity of the cross has made me fall more in love with God, and to walk in the fullness of that revelation. Do yourself a favor and purchase this awesome teaching!

I have never read anything of Andrew Wommacks that wasn't the very best. He is in tune with God and his books will show you who you are in Christ and you can teach others. His teachings are wonderful!!
