To hate and to scold...

Derek Chambers, Marquess of Whitlock, has a problem: his wife. She is the single most horrifying aspect of his life, and the only thing he has ever enjoyed about her are their truly spectacular fights. As such, he prefers having as little to do with her as possible. So when she unexpectedly summons him to London, he surprises himself by going, and finds his life turned upside down in ways he never thought possible.

To loathe and to perish...

Katherine despises her worthless and irritating husband, and nothing bothers her more than the fact that he actually came to London when she sent for him. Worst of all, now that he has come, she needs him to stay. With her. And with his every smile making her heart race, she begins to wonder if there could be more to him than meets the eye.

Great clean read!
By Jillian
I loved the first book in this series and was eagerly looking forward to the release of the second book. The first look at the couple showed them bickering and being very harsh, quite shocking under the circumstances of their meeting. I had started to wonder if maybe I should have just stuck with the first book. But that part was quickly over with. They moved on and started working on their relationship. I completely got wrapped up in their story. I totally fell in love with both Derek and Kate. I enjoyed this second book even more than I enjoyed the first one. I look forward to reading a lot more from this author.

I didn't love it, but I liked it for what it was - 3.5 stars
By Nen
I'm giving this book 4 stars based on my expectations. If you're looking for literature comparable to Jane Eyre, this is not it, but it is a light, amusing, romantic story that delivers about what you'd expect from this sort of a book. It is not serious historical fiction, but it does have a historical setting. There is nothing spectacular about it, but it is decently written. There is a certain element of sugar shock to it, as both the main characters become pretty 'wonderful' fairly quickly. The suspense comes primarily from wondering how long it will take them to finally admit they love each other consummate their marriage. My main critique for the book is that every kiss is 'the most amazing' and every new discovery is 'more amazing than anything that has ever been discovered before', and every new revelation of feelings is 'the most amazing' etc. etc. etc. Not that the words don't get more interesting than 'amazing', but in the end it's the same thing, and I began to ask myself how long things could continue to escalate. They do manage to continue escalating throughout the book, and at the end the real sugar shock kind of sets in as things are wrapped up with their extremely ideal and amazing marriage/family/etc.

Writing this, my review sounds more critical than I intended, but I did enjoy this book - for what it was. I knew it was going to be light and fluffy, and since that was what I was wanting to read it did a good job fitting that bill. If you want something fast, light, sugary, historical-ish, and with decent writing, this will do.

Predictable and unoriginal.
By Watching
You will find nothing original or exciting in Married to the Marquees, it is simply a story of a nasty spoilt man who falls in love with his sharp tongued wife. Well, there might be a little more to it in that they both make the changes necessary for love to grow but that's it. Nothing more. I kept turning pages looking for the exciting part but it just never manifested. Every chapter even the epilogue was predictable not to mention boring.
The only surprise was the author's failure to do her research. Doesn't everyone know about primogeniture? Only the eldest living son can inherit the title? Just because Derek's father is mad does not mean he can delegate whom his title goes to. Derek being the Marquess and married to Lady Kate Whitlock by arrangement. It is their marriage we watch go from hateful to loving.
While I could drone on and on about all that is wrong with this story I'll stop here, no wait I do have to agree with the others who felt the style of conversing to be too trendy. I frequently felt like I was reading about a bunch of young hipsters who were gathering for a round of Frisbee golf.
So there you have it, read it at your own risk. The reason for two stars was simply because I was able to finish it. There are a lot of books nowadays that are so unpalatable I can't even finish.
